Warning on gas prices due to supply being affected due to cold
Energy prices are at risk of rising after British Gas owner Centrica warned storage levels are “significantly low” due to cold weather.
Centrica, which owns the country’s largest gas storage facility, said the UK had “less than a week’s worth of gas demand in store”.
The BBC believes the country is in no danger of running out of gas but it means Britain will need to buy more supply from Continental Europe.
The government said: “We are confident that we will have sufficient gas supply and electricity capacity to meet demand this winter.”
