Uganda Ebola’s Sudan starts a clinical test to combat stress
The study comes amidst the outbreak of the Sudan Ebola virus, which has already killed a nurse and infected others.
Uganda has discontinued a clinical test of a vaccine against Ebola which killed a person in the outbreak announced last week.
Health workers and other people coming in contact with stress starting four days after Uganda are being targeted in trial when Uganda announced the death of a nurse in the capital Kampala.
Two more cases were confirmed in the first victim’s relatives on Monday.
This for the sixth time has collided with the outbreak of the Sudan Strain of the Uganda virus, for which there is no approved vaccine. Of the five other Ebola species, only one has licensed the vaccine.
Between 2013 and 2016, the deadliest Ebola epidemic of more than 11,300 people in West Africa died.
“This vaccination test was initiated with record speed,” said Tedros Adhanom Gabrisus, the head of the World Health Organization (WHO).
In 2022, during the previous outbreak of the Sudan Ebola virus in Uganda, a system for candidates was kept for vaccines, paving the way for a test during the next outbreak, said the WHO.
The dose is being used in a “ring” vaccination scheme, where the first JABs are given contacts and contacts of all the confirmed Ebola patients.
The WHO stated that the first ring included 40 direct contacts on Monday, and the contacts of health workers who died.
The human-to-human transmission of the Ebola occurs through the fluids of the body, with the main symptoms fever, vomiting, bleeding and diarrhea.
Sudan Ebola virus had eight out of the previous outbreaks in Uganda and three in Sudan.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo has more than a dozen Ebola epidemic, killing 2,280 people in 2020.
