American devices maker Apple’s wireless earphones AirPods may soon be assembled in India. This will be a big step in the company’s plan to increase manufacturing outside China. In the last few years, Apple has increased the manufacturing of iPhone in the country.

A media report states that the company’s major contract manufacturer Foxconn is preparing to start manufacturing of AirPods in a new factory near Hyderabad in Telangana. It has been said in this report that the manufacturing trial of AirPods has started. Along with manufacturing of Apple’s iPhones in the country, exports have also increased. China and Vietnam have a major stake in the manufacturing of AirPods.

Apple’s iPhone manufacturing in the country has reached $10 billion (about Rs 84,000 crore) between April and October of the current financial year. If account sales, distribution, marketing, logistics and margins are included in the company’s $10 billion manufacturing, this value is approximately $15 billion. The share of export of iPhones in this total value is about seven billion dollars. Manufacturing for the company in October was the highest in a month at two billion dollars. The Central Government’s Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme plays an important role in the increase in Apple’s manufacturing. In the last four years the company has created approximately 1,75,000 employment opportunities in the country. The company’s target is to achieve manufacturing worth $18 billion in the current financial year. The government has planned to give incentives worth five billion dollars (about Rs 42,221 crore) to companies in the electronics sector for local manufacturing of components for laptops and smartphones. This will reduce the supply from China.

Apple is also preparing to invest about one billion dollars in setting up a manufacturing plant in Indonesia. Components for smartphones and other products will be made in this plant. Indonesia had banned the sale of the company’s iPhone 16 in October due to lack of local manufacturing. Recently, Indonesia’s Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani had said that the company’s investment plan is being finalized. He said that talks will be held with Apple to increase investment.
