Teenager dies due to stabbing at bus station
gettyA murder investigation has been launched after a 17-year-old boy was found stabbed to death near a bus station.
Police said Thomas Taylor was walking on Greenhill Street, close to Bedford bus station, at 17:50 GMT on Wednesday when a group of men attacked him.
The Bedford Academy student was taken to hospital with serious injuries but later died.
Det Ch Inspector Katie Donias, of Bedfordshire Police’s major crime unit, said: “This is an absolutely shocking incident in which a teenage boy has been stabbed to death in a busy town centre.”
He added, “We have a dedicated team of detectives working on this investigation and supporting Thomas’ family at this incredibly difficult time for them.”
He asked anyone with information to contact the police.
“We are aware that photographs and videos are being circulated on social media, please avoid sharing any such clips and instead contact the police,” he said.
‘Popular and respected’
Chris Deller, head teacher at Bedford Academy, said: “We are very saddened and shocked to hear the tragic news that a Bedford Academy pupil has lost his life.
“Thomas was a popular, well-liked and respected boy who completed Year 11 with good results, before studying at Year 6.
“Our focus now is on supporting the family during such a difficult time, as well as helping our students and the broader community recover from such a tragic loss.”
Bedfordshire Police said that several areas of the town center are currently cordoned off.
The force said they were searching for the suspects, who were black and wearing dark clothing.
It is believed they drove towards Hassett Street and Greyfriars car park.
Superintendent Hob Hoke said: “We appreciate that this incident will be of concern to Bedford residents and we will be increasing our presence in the town with additional patrols over the coming days.
“Knife crime has no place in our communities, and we want to reassure the public that we are working hard to establish the circumstances surrounding this horrific violence and trace those responsible.”
