Teen girl killed in shark attack in Australia

A teenage girl has died after being attacked by a shark in Queensland, Australia.
Paramedics on Monday responded to reports of a “serious shark cutting” on Wurim Beach in the north of Brisbane, around 16:45 local time (06:45 GMT), wrote on X by Queensland Ambulance Service.
Police confirmed that the girl had to face fatal injuries and died shortly after 17:00. Australian media reports that she was 17 years old.
The water around the beach is the houses of several sharks, but the attack occurred close to the edge in the popular surfing spot, with remedies to protect the shark.
Police confirmed that the girl was floating in the water from Bribi Island – away from the mainland, on which Vurim sits beach – when she was attacked by a shark, whose species has not been identified.
The Queensland ambulance service confirmed that the victim had suffered a deadly injuries on his upper body.
From the Australian media reports, he was cut on hand about 100 meters from the coast.
Shortly after the attack, Christopher Potter reached the beach. He told ABC News: “There are many swimming groups that float here in the morning and afternoon.
“It is known that there are a lot of sharks around Bribie, but it is close to the edge, it is still a blow.”
The water near the beach is preserved with a drumline – the barrels are anchored on the sea level, hooks to catch the shark that become very close.
The targeted species caught in these are then ejected, while other species are transferred and released.
Police said they would prepare a report on Monday’s incident for Koroner.
This second shark in Australia’s water this year is fatal, after hitting Surfer Lance Apple on 2 January from the coast of South Australia.
The last deadly attack in the Greater Brisbane region came in 2006, when 21 -year -old Sarah Whire was killed while swimming with friends.
According to the state government website, shark attacks in Queensland are “rarely and most shark species do not risk people”.
