Sri Lanka killed by nationwide power cut

Sri Lanka has been killed by a nationwide power cut, in which buildings including hospitals have to rely on the generator for electricity supply.

Outage, which began around 11:30 times (06:00 GMT), has not yet been completely decided.

Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) stated that power cuts were caused by an emergency at a sub-station and it was working to restore the supply.

According to the AFP news agency, Energy Minister Kumara Jaikodi allegedly convicted a monkey for outage, stating that the animal is “creating an imbalance with our grid transformer”.

The minister said, “Engineer is participating in it to try and restore the service as soon as possible.”

CEB said, “We are making every effort to restore the island-wide power failure as soon as possible”.

Hospitals and businesses of the island nation of 22 million people have used generators or inverters.
