Southport Family ‘Try to find light in darkness’

In the last summer, the parents of the two children, who were killed in the Southport knife attack, reported that they are “trying to find light in the dark”, as they first speak publicly.

Six-year-old Babe King’s parents, who cannot be nominated for legal reasons, and Jenny and David Stankombay, parents of seven-year-old Elsey Dot, Talked to Sunday Times About girls.

Just before the afternoon, Ms. Stankombay received a call from the mother of one of the other children in the class, who described her as “something terrible”, saying: “Somebody stabbed the children.”

Babe’s father said: “I went down from Heart Street and looked directly that there were ambulances everywhere.”

Rudkubana also tried to kill eight other children, who cannot be nominated for legal reasons, Ms. Lucas and businessman John Hess.

Families told how the tragedy had affected its other children, including Elsey’s younger brother -in -law.

Mr. Stankombay said: “You know that you say to your children every day, every night, ‘I will not let anything happen to you”?

“How can I say now (Elsey’s brother -in -law)?”

In October, Prince and Princess of Wales visited Southport to convey a message to the families of the victims and emergency employees.

The couple met both the parents of Elsey with Babe’s parents.

This was Wales’ first public appearance since ending chemotherapy.

“This means a lot to Jenny,” said Mr. Stankombay. “Because this was his first public presence.

“I wouldn’t say what he said to us, but whatever he shared with us was really, really powerful, and it was a powerful message and hearty, and it meant a lot.”

Families welcomed the schemes, on 21 January by Home Secretary Yett Cooper, announced for a public inquiry into stabbing.

His mother said: “She was the most positive, bubbling girl and we have to respect it.

“We have to live for Babe. And respect her. And find light in the dark.”
