Seventeen students died in Nigeria School fire

At least 17 children have died in a fire at an Islamic school in Northern Nigeria.

Several other students were injured and for treatment, Zamfara reached the health centers in Kauran Namoda city of the state.

It is believed that on Tuesday night a nearby house caught fire and spread to the school, while the children were considered teenagers, sleeping.

Local authorities and emergency respondents were sent to the spot, but the fire was already cured.

Eyewitness Yahya Mahi told BBC Hausa that the school’s place made it difficult for those trying to stop the fire.

“Even if the firefighters came on time, it became difficult due to the tight road leading to the house to reach home,” he said.

Local officer Mannir Hedra said that other Islamic schools would be inspected to ensure that they were not at risk of fire.

“We will take measures to stop another event of this nature,” he said.

The father of one of the victims told BBC Hosa that he was destroyed but his faith in God was giving him rest at this time.
