Search for missing person near Ford submerged in storm

Mountain rescue teams are searching for a missing person in an area that was flooded during Storm Darragh.

The North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and the Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team confirmed that 22 volunteers were involved in the search near Alnwick.

They are scanning the area around Aberwick Ford, where a small road crosses the River Elan near the village of Bolton in northern Northumberland.

The storm has caused worsening weather in Britain since Saturday morning, prompting several flood warnings.

Road and rail travel was disrupted and thousands of people across Britain were left without power.

Winds of up to 58mph were recorded on the Northumberland coast on Saturday and more than 48mm of rain was recorded at Redesdale Camp.

Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service dealt with a number of calls relating to fallen trees, power cuts and surface water flooding affecting roads.
