Rare red warning in Scotland ahead of Storm Iovine

A rare red weather warning has been issued for central Scotland as the country prepares for Storm Eowyn.
The Met Office said winds could reach up to 100mph on exposed west coasts and could be life-threatening causing flying debris, power outages and damage to buildings.
It is feared that the wind gusts will create very dangerous driving conditions and cause significant disruption to all travel.
The red warning will run from 10:00 to 17:00 on Friday and cover a large part of the central belt, some islands and parts of south west Scotland.
Meanwhile the rest of Scotland remains under an amber or yellow alert for most of the day.
According to the Met Office, Storm Iovine – the first named storm of the year in the UK – will see winds increase rapidly from west to east from Friday morning to afternoon.
Gusty winds of 80-90 mph are expected to significantly impact areas covered by the alert.

Rail operator ScotRail said on social media it was “working with industry partners” to decide what action to take.
Speed restrictions will be in place on many bridges, including the Forth Road Bridge.
Another yellow weather warning has been issued for parts of Scotland on Saturday.
