Pope Francis opens the Holy Door at St. Peter’s Basilica to begin a special jubilee year
Pope Francis has launched a special jubilee year for Roman Catholics during a Christmas Eve ceremony at the Vatican.
The Pope began the jubilee by opening the sacred doors, usually made of brick, in St. Peter’s Basilica.
The Jubilee occurs only once every 25 years, and more than 30 million pilgrims are expected to pass through the doors of Rome and ask for forgiveness for their sins.
