Peak District roads closed due to ‘selfish’ parking

Police have closed roads in Derbyshire’s Peak District due to “bad parking”.
Winnutts Pass and Rushup Edge, near Castleton, were both closed by police on Sunday afternoon.
The force issued a warning that dangerously parked cars will be towed, while owners of poorly parked vehicles will have to pay fines.
People who had planned to visit the Winnats Pass area have been asked by police to find an alternative place to go “and, when you go, please park appropriately”.
Hope Valley Police teams said 21 drivers who parked on the road to Winnuts Pass on Saturday would be prosecuted.
A spokesman for Derbyshire Police said, “This type of parking is not just an inconvenience, it blocks the way for ambulances and fire engines responding to potentially life-and-death emergencies.”
“So if you were intending to travel to Winnats Pass today you will need to find an alternative location to travel and when you do, please park appropriately.
“If you can’t get where you intended to go in the first place don’t just dump your car, your selfish actions could make the difference in whether someone gets life-saving care or not. “
