Eliama Philip, Khan’s son’s caregiver, said she first saw the shadow of a man near the bathroom door late at night while she was in the child’s room with the nanny.
Ms Philip said a man appeared holding a wooden object in one hand and a long blade in the other and warned both of them against making any noise. They demanded 10 million rupees ($115,477; £94,511), he said.

A scuffle soon broke out, during which Ms Philip was injured. Meanwhile, granny ran away from the room.
According to the nurse’s statement, Khan and his wife, actress Kareena Kapoor, rushed to the room after hearing the noise. She said that when Khan confronted him, the assailant attacked him with a blade and then fled from the house.
Khan suffered multiple injuries in the attack – including an injury to the back of his neck.
Dr Nitin Dange of Lilavati Hospital, where Khan is being treated, said that when the actor arrived, he was bleeding and had a piece of a knife stuck in his spinal cord. The fragments were surgically removed, and fluid leakage was controlled. Doctors said that timely treatment prevented serious damage to the spinal cord.
Dr Dange said on Friday that Khan is “better now”.
“We let him walk, and he walks well. Given his parameters, his wounds and all the other injuries, it is safe to move him out of the ICU. He has to take a lot of precautions. He has to rest and his gait Have been banned for a week,” he said.
Mumbai Police Deputy Commissioner Dixit Gadam said the weapon used for the attack has not been found and they have filed a complaint based on the nurse’s statement.
“The accused used the fire escape ladder to enter inside,” he said. “Investigation is underway to find out how the door of the house was opened or how the intruder gained entry.”

Khan, 54, is also a producer who has appeared in several films and TV shows over the years. He is known for his quick wit and comic timing.
His portrayal of the antagonist in the critically acclaimed Omkara in 2006 was widely praised. He has won several awards, including the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian honour, in 2010.
Khan is the son of former Indian cricket captain Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and actor Sharmila Tagore.
