‘One in a billion’ round egg discovered in Devon


A Devon woman has discovered an egg she claims is a “one in a billion” egg due to its unusual round shape.
Alison Green, an egg operator at Fenton Farm near the Somerset border, identified the rarity before Christmas and is now planning to send it to auction.

Ms Green said she hoped to achieve a similar amount at an Exeter auction in March, with the proceeds going to the “incredible” Devon Rape Crisis charity.
‘Hasn’t Elon Musk got a round egg?’
The 57-year-old woman said she had worked at the Devon farm for three years and handled more than 42 million eggs, and had never encountered a single egg before.
Discussing the moment she found the egg, she said: “It was really surprising because they rolled up in a specific way and it didn’t happen – it just stood out.
“This is now something that no one else has. Elon Musk doesn’t have a round egg, right?”

He added, “Hopefully, it will sell for a lot of money.”
Auctioneer Brian Goodison of Bearness Hampton Littlewood Auctioneers said: “Spherical chicken eggs are quite unusual and there are people who have paid £100 and sometimes £200 for them.”
