New Orleans attack: Allstate Sugar Bowl between Notre Dame and Georgia postponed
The Sugar Bowl between the University of Notre Dame and the University of Georgia college football teams has been postponed until Thursday after the New Orleans attack that killed 10 people.
A man drove a car into a large crowd in New Orleans in the early hours of the New Year, injuring at least 35 others, authorities said.
Sugar Bowl chief executive Jeff Hundley said the Sugar Bowl committee is “devastated by the terrible events”.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families,” he said.
“We are in ongoing discussions with officials at the local, state and federal levels and will communicate further details as they become available.”
The FBI confirmed that the incident was being investigated as a “terrorist act”.
The game between the Georgia Bulldogs and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish is set to be the last of four College Football Playoff quarterfinals.
It has not yet been confirmed what time the rearranged game will start on Thursday.
