Nancy Pelosi in hospital after injury on trip abroad
Former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been hospitalized after suffering undisclosed injuries during an official visit to Luxembourg, her office said on Friday.
Pelosi, 84, is “currently receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals,” spokesman Ian Crager said in a statement.
The Democrat, who still represents California in the U.S. House, was traveling to Luxembourg with a bipartisan congressional delegation to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge.
Cragger said Pelosi is “expecting to return home to the United States soon” and will continue working from the hospital.
The congresswoman from San Francisco has been a prominent figure in American politics throughout her career spanning seven presidential administrations.
He first served as House Speaker from 2007 to 2011, the second most influential position in the presidency after the Vice President, then regained the job in 2019 after his party regained control of the chamber.
He resigned from office in 2023 after serving two separate four-year terms. But he has continued working in the House. Last month, she was elected for another two-year term.
Pelosi joined 17 other House members on the bipartisan trip to Luxembourg, according to House Speaker Mike Johnson’s office. The delegation is scheduled to attend anniversary events with the veterans, their families and military officials.
Pelosi will not be able to attend further events, her spokesperson said.
His injury comes just days after outgoing Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Republican from Kentucky, suffered a sprained wrist and facial injuries after falling at the US Capitol.
