Market attack suspect detained amid anger over security lapse
A suspect has appeared in court after an attack on a German Christmas market on Friday killed five people and injured more than 200 others.
The suspect is named Taleb al-Abdulmohsen, a doctor from Saudi Arabia who came to Germany in 2006 and was recognized as a refugee in 2016.
It comes as German authorities face a growing response after the alleged attacker used an access lane for emergency vehicles to get to the market.
On a visit on Saturday, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, ministers and regional political leaders were heckled by members of the public, with some angry at what they criticized as a security lapse.
