Many people feared dead in Sudan after hitting the crowded market

Dozens of people in Sudani state North Darfur are feared to be dead after heavy shelling at a camp for displaced people.

A local official told the BBC that the paramilitary rapid support forces (RSF) attacked a crowded market on Tuesday evening for about two hours, a camp in Abu hobby on the outskirts of L-Fashar city.

This camp is home to more than half a million displaced people and the attack on its market is second in three days.

The L-Fasher is the last major city in Darfur under the control of the army and has been sieged by the RSF for about a year.

The attack on Abu hobbies took place in the busiest time of the day. The population of the camp is mostly Muslims, who are observing the holy month of Ramadan, and many were shopping in the market, preparing to break their fast for the day.

The shelling caused many injuries, which from light to serious, Dr. Ibrahim Nadan, a drug at the last working hospital in L-Fasher, told the BBC.

Local health volunteers said that Abu hobby was also placed in an attack by RSF on Sunday, killing six civilians.

RSF has not commented on Sunday or Tuesday’s attack.

Since it was enraged in April 2023, war has killed tens of thousand people, forced millions of people from their homes and faced many famine.

Both RSF and Army have been accused of persecuting, RSF has accused the non-Arabic groups of the region of committing a massacre in Darfur.

The conflict has divided the country, in which the army controls the north and east, while RSF holds most of the Darfur region in the west and parts of the south.

In recent weeks, the army has withdrawn parts of Khartum and surrounding areas from RSF.
