M1 closed after body found in bushes

Police said a man’s body was found in bushes next to the M1.

At around 15:00 GMT, the road was closed in both directions near Watford, between junctions five and six.

Police said the death was being treated as “unexplained”.

Drivers faced huge delays during the evening rush hour.

The southbound section reopened at approximately 18:30, while the northbound section reopened just after 22:00.

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Police said: “We were contacted this afternoon after a man was found dead in bushes along the side of the motorway between junctions five and six.

“Officers are currently working to establish the circumstances of the man’s death, which are currently unclear, and will remain in the area this evening and tomorrow.”
