Slovenian Donic, who is currently ignoring a calf injury, provides 28.1 points per game, 8.3 rebounds and 7.8 assistance for Mavricks since trading from Atlanta Hawks in 2018.
The 25-year-old guard has been an all-star for the last five sessions and ended as the top scorer of the league in 2024 to help the NBA reach the final.
Although Donic could be seen as James’s long -term successor, the 40 -year -old showed that he could still compete at the highest level with a standout performance in New York on Saturday night.
Reacting to the business, Lams General Manager Rob Pelinka said: “Luka is one type of young global superstar who will lead this franchise for the years to come.
“His killer tendency and commitment to win the championship will be a motivational power for the team.
“We are very grateful to the six seasons (Anthony Davis’) with Laks, where he took our franchise to a championship and cemented herself as a perennial NBA all-star.”
Maveryx general manager Nico Harrison said that Davis’s arrival may be converted into the title contenders after beating the NBA in the NBA final in the previous season.
“I believe the defense wins the championship,” he told ESPN. “I believe that getting an all-NBA player with an all-defensive (center) and a protective mindset gives us a better chance.
“We are created to win and in future.”
