Keira Walsh: Chelsea Sign England Midfielder from Barcelona
Chelsea has signed England midfielder Keira Walsh from Barcelona.
The 27 -year -old, who spent eight years in Manchester City before joining Barcelona, signed a four and a half year deal with Chelsea.
The lady super league transfer time was on Thursday but the deal was announced only on Friday.
Chelsea did not confirm the fee, but it does not challenge a world record of about 900,000 pounds that she paid for USA defender Naomi Girma earlier this month.
“This is incredible. I am very happy to come here and I am very excited to start,” Walsh said.
“You see the history of the trophy Chelsea has won and I am an ambitious player and a person, so for me, it’s a good fit.”
Despite Barka not being ready to sell initially, it is believed that Chelsea’s dialect was accepted late on Wednesday before Walsh underwent medical on Thursday.
The 27 -year -old, who left Manchester City to join Barcelona for the then world record fee of £ 400,000 in 2022, was keen to return to England to be close to the family.
Chelsea, who is at the top of the female super league and the only unbeaten side after 12 matches, is interested in Walsh for a long time and looking at her midfield since summer.
Manager Sonia Bampstore has received significant support as a club bid to win the Champions League. Walsh has won the competition twice with Barcelona.
