Jay-Z was accused along with Diddy in a lawsuit of raping a 13-year-old girl in 2000
US rapper Jay-Z has hit back at a lawsuit alleging that he along with Sean “Diddy” Combs drugged and raped a 13-year-old girl at a party in 2000.
The unnamed accuser alleges she was assaulted at a house party after the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) in New York, with an unnamed female celebrity in the room at the time.
In a statement, Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, dismissed the legal action as a “blackmail attempt.”
Mr Combs – who is in jail awaiting trial after being charged with sex-trafficking and other crimes in September – denied the latest allegation.
The lawsuit was originally filed in October, and it was refiled on Sunday to list Mr. Carter as a defendant.
The BBC has contacted Mr Carter’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, and his publicist for comment.
The legal action was filed under New York’s Gender-Motivated Violence Protection Act by Texas-based attorney Tony Buzbee.
Mr. Buzbee has filed several lawsuits in recent months accusing Mr. Combs of assault and rape. The hip-hop artist faces a criminal trial on May 5.
Mr Carter said in a statement posted on social media: “My lawyer received what is called a demand letter, an attempted blackmail, from a ‘lawyer’ named Tony Buzbee.
“What they calculated was that the nature of these allegations and the public scrutiny would lead me to compromise.
“No sir, it had the opposite effect! It prompted me to publicly expose your fraud. So no, I will not give you a single red penny!!”
A statement from Mr Combs’s legal team said the amended lawsuit was the latest in a series of “shameless publicity stunts” designed to extract payment from celebrities who fear the spread of lies about themselves, such as That lies have been spread about Mr. Combs.
The statement said that the judicial process will prove Mr. Combs innocent of all charges against him. There are 30 other cases pending against him.
The accuser, identified only as “Jane Doe” in Sunday’s legal filing, said that in 2000, when she was 13, a friend dropped her off at the VMAs at Radio City Music Hall in Manhattan. Had given.
According to the legal action, he approached limousine drivers outside the venue to try to gain access to the show.
The lawsuit says a driver told him he was hired by Mr. Combs and was “a good fit for what Diddy was looking for.”
According to the legal action, later that evening the driver took her to a party at a white house.
The lawsuit states that Jane Doe says that when she arrived at the party she was asked to sign a document that she believes was a nondisclosure agreement.
The legal action states that she recognized “several celebrities” at the party and witnessed widespread drug use, including cocaine.
According to the lawsuit, a waitress offered her a drink that made her feel “funny”, so she went into a room to lie down.
Shortly thereafter, the legal action says, Mr. Combs and Mr. Carter entered the room with a female celebrity, described as Celebrity B. “Plaintiff immediately recognized all three celebrities,” the lawsuit states.
The legal action says Mr Combs came up to her “with a crazy look in his eyes”, grabbed her and said: “You’re ready to party!”
According to the lawsuit, Mr. Carter grabbed her and raped her, before Mr. Combs did the same while Celebrity B watched.
According to the legal action, Jane Doe fought back during the attack and escaped when Mr. Combs was surprised and stepped back.
The lawsuit, which seeks unspecified damages, says the plaintiff still suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and depression as a result of the alleged rape.
In his statement, Mr Carter, who is married to Beyoncé, with whom he has three children, said: “My only grief is for my family.
“My wife and I have to sit our children down, one of whom is at an age where her friends will certainly look at the press and ask questions about the nature of these claims, and explain the cruelty and greed of people.”
