Jamie Foxx reveals he had a stroke in 2023
Hollywood star Jamie Foxx has revealed the reason behind his hospitalization in April last year.
Speaking during the Netflix special, the Django Unchained star told viewers he had “suffered a bleed in the brain which led to a stroke”.
He said that one day he had a bad headache and asked for aspirin but before he could take it, he “passed out (blacked out). I don’t remember 20 days”.
At the time, his daughter Corinne Fox said he experienced a “medical complication,” but the family did not share details about his health issues.
In an emotional conversation with the audience for Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was…, which was recorded in Atlanta, the city where he was working when he fell ill, Fox said he was initially given cortisone injections. After was sent home by the doctors.
Then his sister came to see him and realized it wasn’t him so she took him to Piedmont Hospital in her car.
Then a doctor told him he was bleeding in the brain which had caused a stroke, adding: “If I don’t get into his brain right now, we’ll lose him.”
He said that his sister kept praying the entire time outside the theater during his operation.
Doctors could not find the origin of the bleeding in the brain.
Fox also told the audience that “Your life doesn’t flash in front of your face, it was strangely peaceful, I saw a tunnel, I didn’t see the light.”
He joked: “It was very hot in that tunnel, am I going to the wrong place?”
Fox said the doctor told his family: “He may make a full recovery but this is going to be the worst year of his life.”
The star praised her sister Deidra Dixon and daughter Corinne for “keeping it under wraps” so no one could see.
He told his fans, “They didn’t want you to see me like this and I didn’t want you to see me like this.”
He indicated that his head movements were a bit unstable after the stroke and his daughter was worried that people would make memes about him.
He said he woke up on May 4, 2023, and was in a wheelchair because he was unable to walk, and did not remember why, adding that he initially denied: “Jamie Foxx doesn’t have strokes.”
He revealed that he later had to undergo rehabilitation in Chicago.
Fox was filming Netflix’s Back in Action with Cameron Diaz when he became ill.
Since then, he has spoken warmly about the support he has received from his family, but this is the first time he has spoken in detail about his situation.
