Is Google Search’s dominance coming to an end? Market share fell below 90% for the first time in a decade!

Google has been the search giant for decades and even though it currently leads globally, its market share has fallen below 90 percent, according to StatCounter data highlighted by Search Engine Land. This has reportedly happened for the first time since 2015.
The report shows that almost a decade ago, Google’s market share fell below 90 percent for three consecutive months during the last three months of 2024 (October, November and December). At the same time, StatCounter data shows that Google’s market share in October 2024 was 89.34%. It fell further to 89.09% in November. At the same time, the market share in December was 89.73%.
Insights from Search Engine Land indicate that this could be a worrying data for Google. Search Engine Land suggests that Google’s market share has remained largely stable in most regions except Asia. In such a situation, it becomes clear that the search giant has been most affected by the Asian market. The report further suggests that competitors like Bing, Yandex and Yahoo have regained some of Google’s lost market share.
