HONOR Pad X8a Nadal Kids Edition Review Features specifications price in India
For ages 2 years or younger?
When I unboxed the HONOR Pad X8a Kids Edition after reaching home from office, both my daughters insisted on getting it first. After the setup was completed, I first gave this tab to my younger daughter, because I had some doubts.
There was doubt whether it would be able to handle the heavy 495 gram tab with 11 inch display? Once the display is unlocked, will she be able to use it alone?
After holding the Honor Tab by the handle, she started roaming here and there in the house. She was happy holding a new thing in her hands. She must have been even more happy that I had given her the tab instead of her elder sister. After roaming around for some time, she gave the Honor tablet to me and in her own style started insisting that I unlock it and give it to her.
After unlocking the tab, I started YouTube and played her favorite kids videos. She was happy to see a gadget with a big screen in front of her. She watched the videos with great heart for some time, but when it came to changing the videos, she got confused because the interface of YouTube is slightly different in tablets as compared to mobiles. I helped him, but after about 40 minutes he suddenly lost interest in the tab. Ultimately she liked her mother’s mobile, on which she watches videos daily.
For the next several days, I tried to show her the video on the Honor Tab, but after some time she started insisting on going back to the mobile. She was not even able to handle the tab properly. He needed help again and again. After many days of experience as a father, I have no hesitation in saying that the HONOR Pad X8a Nadal Kids Edition is not for children up to two years of age. If parents take it, they will have to help the child in using it.
How is this tab for school going?
Now let’s talk about my 7 year old elder daughter, who studies in first class and uses smartphone well. After getting her hands on the unique, kid-style tablet, she was in cloud nine. First he looked at the tab carefully. Then she kept playing with it for some time with the attached stylus. After some time, she unlocked the tab and started working without my help. He was able to understand MagicOS 8.0 based on Android 14 very easily. Going to Play Store, she quickly downloaded many games like ‘Pizza Maker’, ‘Draw Puzzle Line’, ‘Kids Counting’, ‘Kids Learn’ and started playing. He also made extensive use of the stylus. Initially, without the stylus she was not even clicking on the tab. However, later he used the stylus more for drawing, painting and gaming.
The stylus is tied to the tab with a thread and attaches at the back. It is as thick as a pencil, making it easy for children to hold. Its touch response is also fast.
My elder daughter was using the tab for one to one and a quarter hour every day and the battery had to be charged in 3 to 4 days. Then due to pollution in Delhi, schools were closed and classes came in online mode. During the online class, I understood the actual use of HONOR Pad X8a Nadal Kids Edition. Due to its excellent design, there was no need to attach the tab separately to a stand while studying. My daughter was able to attend class well on the big screen. She was able to interact with her friends. Whatever was taught from the black board or book was clearly visible on the big screen. The screen presence of the daughter was also good with 5MP front camera. The tab’s 4 speakers produce loud sound, making studying a breeze!
I also liked HONOR Pad X8a Nadal Kids Edition for personal use. Its 1920×1200 resolution display with 90 Hz refresh rate generates sharp and vivid colors, making watching movies and videos a pleasure. The Tab didn’t hurt at all during indoor use. Yes! During outdoor use, the display became a bit dim in bright sunlight.
With Snapdragon 680 4G mobile processor and 6GB RAM, this tab was a bit slow for me in daily use. Google was responding a little late after opening 7 to 8 tabs in Chrome. Heavy gaming was not possible in it, so I did not play heavy games. Definitely did benchmark tests, I will tell you about them later.
user interface, camera
The user interface of the Pad X8a Kids Edition is good. It is very simple on MagicOS 8.0 OS based on Android 14. From notifications to Control Centre, everything is accessible with a single swipe and settings can be customized. Parental control facility is available. You can also set limits on apps. It can also be found out in which app your child is spending more time. However, some pre-installed apps are available in the tab like Netflix and TikTok. What is their use in the children’s tab?
Cameras do not play much role in budget and mid-range tablets. Same is the case with the Pad X8a Kids Edition. The back side sports a 5MP camera with f/2.2 AF aperture, while the front sports a 5MP selfie camera with f/2.2 FF aperture. Camera performance was fine during video calls and online studies. But don’t expect photography.
benchmark
Now let’s talk about the benchmark tests that we conducted on the Pad X8a Kids Edition. In the Geekbench 6 CPU test, the tab scored 404 points in single core and 1427 points in multi-core. This is comparable to the recently reviewed Redmi Pad Se 4g. In GFXBench’s T-rex, Manhattan 3.1 and Car Chase tests, it achieved 42fps, 15fps and 7.9fps respectively. The device achieved a score of 598 in the 3D Mark Wild Life test. Its Antutu score was 289720. Benchmark tests show that the device is for normal use. Very heavy tasks cannot be done on it. We also tested the Pad X8a’s 8300mAh battery. In the HD video loop test, it lasted 13 hours 45 minutes, which would be called good.
Verdict
In this review I have shared my experience with HONOR Pad X8a Nadal Kids Edition. Its specs and features can be read in the first impression. As far as my verdict is concerned, as a kids’ tab the Pad X8a gets full marks for its design, battery and to some extent, the display. It could have been better at the performance level. The pricing of Rs 13,999 is attractive. If we compare the specifications, there are such tabs available in the market, but the design is the element that separates the Honor Kids Tab from the crowd. So different that nothing else will be able to take its place right now. If you want to buy a tab for a child, then this would be a ‘good’ choice.
