Greenland politicians unite against Trump
Greenland’s leading political parties issued a joint statement to condemn Donald Trump’s “unacceptable behavior”, as the US President seemed to pursue his campaign to handle the island.
Ekta’s performance – Intiasis – saw all the leaders of the parties in Parliament issued a joint message saying “they cannot accept repeated statements about Greenland’s attachment and control”.
It follows a meeting between Trump and NATO General Secretary Mark Rutte on Thursday, where the President seemed doubled on his attachment plan.
Greenland’s joint statement was orchestrated by outgoing Prime Minister Mute B. AD, whose party lost in an election on Tuesday.
“Our country will never be USA and we Greenlanders will never be American,” Edd wrote on Facebook. “Don’t treat us with insults. Is enough.”
Greenland – The world’s largest island among the Arctic and Atlantic oceans – is controlled by Denmark, about 3,000 km (1,860 mi) for about 300 years.
Greenland controls its own domestic affairs, but decisions are made on foreign and defense policy in Copenhagen.
The US had long been interested in the island. It had a military base since the World War Two, and Trump is probably eager for rare earth minerals that can be mined.
Greenland was already defensive about Trump’s Annexing Talk, but his comments further sent shockwaves to Rutte in the White House, when he said that the island may need to be seized with the help of NATO.
“You know, Mark, we need it for international security … We have our favorite players hovering around the coast, and we have to be careful,” Trump said.
“We will talk to you,” he said.
Asked about the possibility of annexation, Trump said: “I think it will happen.”
Rutte has been criticized in both Greenland and Denmark for not reprimanding Trump. Instead, he said that he would “leave the issue out (outside) … I don’t want to pull NATO in it”.
He then published to praise – some world leaders used while working with Donald Trump – saying that he was “completely correct” that security in the Arctic should be maintained.
Joint details The politicians of Greenland emphasized that they are united in their pushbacks against Trump’s plan.
“Greenland continues to work for Greenland,” the statement said.
“We are all standing behind this effort and makes ourselves firm distance from efforts to make discords.”
His decision to speak three days after the election, in which the Center -Dat Opposition – Democratic Party – won a surprising victory.
Its leader, Jens-Frederick Nielsen, who is likely to be the new Prime Minister of Greenland, is now interacting with other parties to form an alliance.
