Fury vs Usyk 2: Fury fully dressed, four stones heavier than Usyk
Tyson Fury, fully dressed for his heavyweight world title fight against champion Oleksandr Usyk in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, missed weight by 1 pound, the heaviest 20th of his career.
Ukraine’s Usyk will defend his WBA (Super), WBC and WBO titles against two-time champion Fury at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh.
Dressed in a leather jacket, white trousers and a baseball cap – which he kept on when he stepped on the scales – Fury weighed four stone more than his opponent.
He appeared more comfortable than he had all week, even shaking hands with Usyk’s teammates.
But the 36-year-old Briton seemed eager to get through Friday’s weigh-in and walked away after just seven seconds during his final bout. A day earlier they had faced each other for 11 minutes.
The Morecambe fighter left without giving an on-camera interview.
When Usyk was asked how he was feeling, he simply replied: “Nothing.”
The 37-year-old won by split decision for the undisputed title in May, handing Fury his first career defeat.
He was also fully dressed in a tracksuit when he tipped the scales, making it difficult to determine the boxer’s conditioning and size, as he weighed in at 16 pounds 1 pound, five pounds less than in the first fight.
Fury’s promoter Frank Warren said, “You can analyze it however you want but tomorrow night you will know who is the best.”
“You know they’ll both come to fight. We’re going to see something extra, special.”
