Israel hoped to release dozens of Palestinians held in Israeli jails as part of the ceasefire deal.

Hamas has released four women Israeli soldiers held in Gaza as part of Gaza’s agreement, handed over to Red Cross officers at Palestine Square in Gaza city.

In exchange for the second release of prisoners on Saturday, Israel is expected to release 200 Palestinians held in Israeli jails.

Next to the release, the score of masked Hamas and Islamic Jihad fighters gathered in the square, where a large crowd of Palestinians also gathered. Apart from hundreds of Hamas members, Palestinian Islamic Jihad and other Palestinian factions are also present on the site.

Representatives of the Red Cross and a Hamas fighter were seen signing the documents before the release.

Hamas identified four women Israeli soldiers as Kareena Riv, Daniila Gilboa, Nama Levi and Liri Albagh. The four prisoners, who were in the Israeli military uniform, released the crowd.

Ibrahim Al Khaliji described the release as a “historic moment” while reporting from Palestine Square to Al Jazira.

Later on Saturday, the Israeli army confirmed that it found soldiers issued from the Red Cross, saying that they would undergo a medical evaluation.

The army said in a statement, “Four returning hostages are currently on returning to Israel’s territory with special forces of IDF (Israeli Army) and ISA (security agency) forces, where they will undergo an initial medical evaluation,” Said in a statement.

As part of the deal, Israeli forces are also expected to withdraw from the Netzerim Corridor, allowing hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians to return to their homes in North Gaza.

Israel is also expected to cross the Rafah border in the south for more humanitarian aid and other commercial supply.

While reporting from Gaza’s Al-Burj refugee camp, Hind Khaudari of Al Jazeera said that many Palestinians on Saturday consider the exchange of prisoners and prisoners as more important as it would pave the way for their return to Northern Gaza.
