Former Wales First Minister Carwyn Jones receives peerage
Former First Minister Carwyn Jones will be made a life peer by Downing Street.
Former Cardiff West MP Kevin Brennan is also set to be elevated to the House of Lords.
Mr Jones was the first minister From 2009 to 2018, until he left office in view of Death of sacked Welsh government minister Carl Sargent,
He had been on the political scene of the then Welsh Assembly since the beginning of devolution in 1999, when he was selected to become AM for Bridgend at the age of 32.
He served in several cabinet jobs under predecessor Rhodri Morgan, including Minister of Agriculture and Counselor General.
He succeeded Mr Morgan as party leader and first minister in 2009 and kept his party in government after the 2011 and 2016 elections, albeit with minority administrations.
Mr Jones was called to the Bar in 1989, is Master of the Bench at Gray’s Inn and Professor of Law at Aberystwyth University. He is a member of the Privy Council.
Labor politician Mr Brennan was a Member of Parliament from 2001 to stood in this year’s election,
He served as a whip and in three different ministerial positions under two Labor Prime Ministers, Tony Blair and Gordon Brown.
Former MEP, MP and Wales Office minister Sir Wayne David will replace Mr Brennan as chief special adviser to the First Minister in the new year.
First Minister Alunred Morgan thanked Mr Brennan for his work, saying: “I know he will continue to serve the interests of Wales in his new position.”
