Five Nigeria sentenced to death on ‘witchcraft’ murder

Five people have been sentenced to death for killing a 2023 woman in Kano state of Nigeria, alleging witchcraft.

The guilty attacked 67 -year -old Dahare Abubakar, as she was working in her farm, killed and killed her.

Ms. Abubakar’s family went to the authorities and the suspects were rapidly arrested in a village from 45 km (28 mi) from Northern Nigeria’s largest city – Kano.

The case attracted attention across the country and discussed how people from rural areas were murdered after allegations of witchcraft.

Those who claim without any evidence believe that people they accuse are responsible for the death of a family member, illness or misfortune.

Giving his decision, Judge Usman Nabba said that the prosecution had proved its case against five men beyond appropriate doubts.

The prosecutor, Abba Sorondiki, said he hoped that the decision would make others wrong and then take matters into his hands.

The court heard that after the sick wife of an accused, the murder of the victim, after Abdulziz Yahya, had a dream that she was being chased by Ms. Abubkar, who was holding the knife.

Yahaya then organized a group to face Ms. Abubakar, resulting in her murder.

Mr. Sorondiki told the BBC, “Such cases are like this, but this is the first time we are watching five people sentenced to death for murder on charges of witchcraft wrongly.”

The victim’s son, Moses Yahya, said that the day his mother was killed was the worst day of his life and he was pleased to see justice serving.

“I am happy because they will get the treatment they met with my mother,” he said.

Defense lawyer Ma’aruf Yakasai said his customers plan to appeal against the verdict.

Death sentence is rarely performed in Nigeria and convicted people often spend the rest of their lives in jail in the queue of death.
