Fasting like this reduces obesity quickly! Claim in new study

Nowadays many people are resorting to fasting, or ‘fasting’ in English, to control or eliminate obesity. These days, intermittent fasting has also become very popular. As the name suggests, a fast that provides breaks between meals. That is, fasting based on a fixed interval is called intermittent fasting. This type of fasting is now supported by another study which provides evidence that intermittent fasting is helpful in enhancing physiological processes important for weight loss and reducing obesity.

Researchers from different institutions in Spain have jointly conducted this study. The purpose of this study was to understand how intermittent fasting programs, such as time-restricted eating, affect fat-loss and health. The study included 197 participants aged 30 to 60, who were classified as overweight or obese.

During 12 weeks, these participants were given guidance related to nutrition. The participants were consuming a Mediterranean diet during this period. The conclusion was found that if intermittent fasting is combined with healthy eating habits, it helps in treating obese people and speeds up the process. The study has been published in Nature Medicine.

This study states that having the last meal before 5 pm and not eating anything at night proves to be very helpful in reducing subcutaneous abdominal fat i.e. the fat present under the skin on the stomach. Subcutaneous fat is that which is present just below our skin. The number of men in Spain who are overweight and obese is reported to be 70%. Whereas in women this percentage is 50. It is also associated with multiple metabolic disorders and can gradually lead to cardiovascular disease, i.e. problems related to the heart and blood vessels.
