Edinburgh Hogmanay celebrations canceled

Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations have been canceled due to concerns about “extreme weather”.
Organizers said ongoing high winds would force the cancellation of all December 30 and Hogmanay events, including a concert in Princes Street Gardens by rock band Texas.
Edinburgh’s world-famous street party and fireworks display will not take place on public safety grounds as the Met Office has issued a yellow warning for wind and rain for Tuesday.
Wind speeds on Sunday led to the cancellation of the traditional torchlight procession, which usually kicks off Hogmanay events.
A spokesperson for Unique Assembly, which runs Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations, said: “Unfortunately we are unable to continue the preparations and necessary set-up for Edinburgh’s Hogmanay outdoor events due to the extreme weather and forecast conditions.
“Therefore, for safety reasons we, along with our event partners, have made the difficult decision to cancel all outdoor events.
“We know this will be extremely disappointing for everyone hoping to celebrate Hogmanay in Edinburgh and the people who travel from all over the world to be home to Hogmanay.”
