East-Tory Minister Islamophobia to review the definition

Labor has appointed former Conservative Attorney General Dominic Grive to lead a review in creating a new definition of Islamophobia.
Deputy Prime Minister Angela Reneer started a new work group with understanding and define the targeted hatred crime against Muslims.
Labor promised a new definition, after the government rejected a cross-party proposal in 2019 by the government.
Critics warned that the current definition is very broad and can curb free speech.
Grive, who served as Tory MP from 1997 to 2019, said he hoped the review “will help support positive changes in our country”.
Griv said: “We know that it is challenging to define Islamophobia because it undoubtedly exists.
“We need to address the living experiences of those who are victims of it and to feel the rights of British Muslims as citizens equal to our country, with all, with the need to maintain the freedom of idea and expression under the law, it has the right to feel, hearing and feeling protected.
“I hope this commission will come up with principles in define Islamophobia which are compatible with the requirements and thus can help support positive changes in our country.”
Any proposed definition will be non-constitutional, but will guide the government and others on discrimination against Muslims.
The All-party parliamentary group on British Muslims proposed a new definition of Islamophobia in 2019.
The government, led by former Prime Minister Theresa May, said the suggested definition was “not broadly accepted” and the matter needed a “careful consideration”.
The issue has been raised by the Labor Government after an increase in the incidents of anti -Muslim hatred crime in England and Wales.
Anti -Muslim hatred in the UK reached a record level last year, according to the maternal uncle – which tracks Islamophobia.
Explain that maternal uncle confirmed about 6,000 reports of anti -Muslim incidents – more than double the number two years ago.
For the first time since the establishment of the body in 2012, men were more targeted than women.
In its report, The organization said that “Muslims were incorrectly depicted as terrorists or terrorist sympathizers after the Israeli-Gaja struggle and Southport killings.
The new work group led by Griv will “guide the government and other bodies to support further action on dealing with religiously motivated hatred”.
Announcing the new review, Rener said: “The increase in anti -Muslim hatred crime is unacceptable and there is no place in our society.
“That’s why we have committed to define anti -Muslim hatred/Islamophobia, as an important step to deal with it and create a society where everyone feels safe and welcome.”
