Dolomites resume search for missing British hiker

The search for a second British climber missing for 10 days in the Dolomites has resumed, Italian authorities have confirmed.

Aziz Zeriat, 36, and Samuel Harris, 35, of London, have not been heard from since January 1. The alarm was raised after the pair failed to check-in to their flight home on January 6.

On Wednesday, rescuers announced they had found a body “unfortunately lifeless, buried under snow”, believed to be Mr Harris.

At first light on Saturday, more than 80 personnel from Alpine Rescue, Guardia di Finanza Rescue, Carabinieri and the local fire brigade resumed the search.

In a statement on Friday, Italian rescue services said the search for Mr Ziriot did not coincide with the location where Mr Harris’ body was found.

The search operation had to be stopped due to dense fog on Friday afternoon.

Mr Harris was found under snow on Wednesday under a rock on the Carrer Alto mountain near Trento.

The cause of his death is unclear, but one possible cause cited by authorities was a “fall from above”.
