Eyewitnesses stated that artillery shelling came from Western Omdurman, where RSF lives under control, and was supported by drones.
In Omdurman, a resident to the south told the AFP news agency that the RSF was firing on several streets at once, saying “rockets and artillery shells are falling.”
A survivor said, “Shells fell in the middle of the vegetable market, which is why there are many victims and injured.”
Employees of the nearby Al-Nao Hospital said they were overwhelmed by the number of casualties and injured “still being brought to the hospital”. A hospital volunteer said that he was in dire need of “shroud, blood donors and stretchers” to carry the injured.
In a separate incident in Khartum, two civilians were killed and dozens of injured in an air strike on the RSF-controlled area, the local emergency response room (ERR) was cited by the AFP.
ERR Sudan has one of hundreds of voluntary committees that coordinate emergency care.
The war between the Sudani Army and the RSF broke in April 2023 on the integration of two forces. It has killed thousands of people, operated millions of people from their homes and submerged half the population into hunger.
RSF Commander Mohammad Hamdan Daglo attacked Saturday a day after the army promised to withdraw the capital to the capital.
He told the soldiers at a rare video address, “We had expelled them (from Khartum) first, and we would re -expel them.”
