Britain’s youngest knife killer’s sentence extended
The minimum sentence of Britain’s youngest knife killer has been increased to life for the murder of Shaun Seesahai.
The appeal court ruling increased the minimum sentence for the two 13-year-old boys from eight-and-a-half years to 10 years.
The children, known only as BGI and CMB, were 12 when they murdered the 19-year-old at Stallone playground in Wolverhampton on November 13 last year.
Mr Sishay was stabbed with a knife in his heart and lungs and he died on the spot.
The boys had previously been detained for at least eight years and six months.
The Solicitor General had referred the sentences of both boys to the appeal court under the unduly lenient sentencing scheme (ULS).
On Thursday, lawyers for the Solicitor General said their sentences were unnecessarily short and should be increased, adding that this was a “particularly serious type of case”.
The judge said full written reasons for the decision would be given at a later date.
The boys are believed to be the youngest defendants convicted of murder in the UK since 11-year-old Robert Thompson and John Venables were found guilty of the murder of two-year-old James Bulger in 1993.
