Barry Keoghan deactivates Instagram because of the ‘hate’ he receives
Irish actor Barry Keoghan has deactivated his Instagram account after receiving the message “No one should ever read this”.
It comes after rumors that the 32-year-old Saltburn star has split from his girlfriend, US pop star Sabrina Carpenter.
In a post on X, he urged “please be respectful” and said he left Instagram because he “can no longer let this thing distract me from my family and my work”.
He wrote, “My name has been dragged across the internet in a way that I don’t normally respond to. I have to respond now because this is getting to a place where a lot of boundaries are being crossed.”
“Complete lies, hatred, disgusting comments about my looks, character, how I am as a parent and every other dehumanizing thing you can imagine.
“Putting my character and everything I’ve worked so hard for and stands for.”
‘crossing a line’
The actor said the comments are “crossing a line” because they are “dragging my beloved mother into this”, and he described his grandmother’s door being knocked down and people sitting outside her young son’s house “scaring” him. Talked.
Keoghan has a child, Brando, 2, with her former partner.
He has been vocal about his difficult childhood, where he grew up in foster care after his mother died of a drug overdose.
In the statement, Keoghan said: “Every day I work hard to push myself at every level to be the healthiest and strongest person I can be for that boy (his son).
“I want to provide him with opportunities to learn, fail, and grow.
“I want him to be able to respect his father, to trust me completely, and to know that no matter what, I will have his back.
“I want you to remember that when he grows up he will have to read all this about his father.
“Please be respectful everyone. Thank you x.”
last month, Louis Theroux speaking on the podcast Keoghan said she has read “absolutely disgusting” comments about her appearance online.
He also spoke of his son being used as “ammunition” against him.
He said, “If I didn’t have tough skin or strength I wouldn’t be sitting here. Of course, (my childhood) is going to take a toll on me, having a father when I didn’t have a blueprint to learn from.” ,
“People read it as laziness and say, ‘Oh, there’s no excuse for being an absentee father.’ I am not an absentee father.
“But still, people like to use my son as ammunition or whatever.”
In 2023, Keoghan won the BAFTA Best Supporting Actor Award for his role in the dark comedy The Banshees of Inishrein and also received an Academy Award nomination for the role.
His other film roles include Martin in The Killing of a Sacred Deer and Dympna in Callum with Horses.
