Australian Open Qualifying 2025: Harriet Dart and Heather Watson win, Dan Evans out

Great Britain’s Harriet Dart and Heather Watson both reached the second round of qualifying for the Australian Open, but Dan Evans was eliminated.
Third seed Darts, who has fallen out of the world top 100 recently, defeated Australian wildcard Lizette Cabrera 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) in Melbourne.
Watson won 7-5, 6-7 (14-16) 6-2 in a hard-fought match against Serbia’s Lola Radivojevic.
However, there was a disappointment for British men’s fifth seed Evans, who lost 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to Japan’s James Trotter.
Billy Harris, who has never reached the main draw of the Australian Open, will face Japan’s Yuta Shimizu in the first round of qualifying on Monday.
Dart will face another Australian in Tayla Preston in the next round on Tuesday, while Watson will play American veteran Varvara Lepchenko.
Britain’s Katie Boulter, Emma Raducanu, Sone Kartel, Jody Burrage, Jack Draper, Cameron Norie and Jacob Fearnley have all received direct entry into the main draw at the first major of 2025.
