Alessia Russo: Arsenal striker’s goalscoring run continues against Bayern Munich, led by Reni Slagers
Eleven games. Eleven starts. Ten goals.
Alessia Russo’s hard work under interim Arsenal boss Rene Slagers is paying off and her fine form continued in the Gunners’ final game before the winter break.
The 25-year-old scored Arsenal’s second goal in Wednesday’s 3-2 comeback win against Bayern Munich, which took them top of the Women’s Champions League group.
This brought Russo’s goals tally to 11 on the season, 10 of which have been scored under sluggers, six of which have come in his last four games.
“I’m my biggest critic and I know at times I definitely haven’t scored as much as I’ve wanted to,” Rousseau told DAZN after the game.
“As a striker you always have moments and spells. It’s about riding the wave and picking it back up when things don’t go well, focusing on training and that’s what I’ve done.”
England international Russo has started every game under the Sluggers since Jonas Idewall resigned as head coach in October.
Under the Swede, Russo played seven out of nine games at the start of the campaign, scoring only once.
“I’m just enjoying my football,” Rousseau said. “We’re playing really good football and we’re getting really important results. We’re really enjoying ourselves and finding a lot of different connections on the pitch and often getting results in a variety of ways.” Are.
“We’re working on a lot of different things, but how can we find different connections in the final third, how can we create different types of attacks. It starts in training and we’ve been lucky enough to have that.” We can also find it in matches.
“It’s been great and as players we want more, we want to take accountability and that’s what we’re doing.”
Arsenal and Roussillon head into the winter break full of confidence and eagerly await the Champions League quarter-final draw on February 7.
“As a group we’re all feeling really positive,” Russo said. “We’ve been working really hard. I know it sounds cliché but we really have. With the players and staff we’ve got, I’ll always support us.”
