Alaska officials search for missing small aircraft
American officials are looking for a small aircraft carrying 10 people who have been reported missing in Alaska state.
The US Coast Guard for the Alaska region stated that a Sesna caravan craft was 12 miles (19 km) offshore, when “its position was lost” then on the flight from Analklet to Nom.
The two cities are some 146 miles from each other across the Norton Sound, an inlet of the Bering Sea on the west coast of Alaska.
State officials said in a statement that the search and rescue teams are “working to get the final known coordinates of the flight”.
He said that he was informed about a “overdue” aircraft operated by the airline Bering Air at 16:00 on Thursday (01:00 GMT).
The board included nine passengers and a pilot, the Alaska Department of Public Safety updated. There was no immediate information about who was on the board.
The BBC has approached Bering Air for comment.
The voluntary fire department at Landing City Nom said that the pilot had told air traffic controllers that “they intended to enter a holding pattern, waiting for the runway”.
