Mahindra Planning to Launch Electric SUVs, Pickup Trucks in Foreign Markets

Mahindra & Mahindra, one of the big automobile companies, has increased its share in the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) segment. The company plans to launch Electric Vehicles (EV) in the international market as well. It has distribution network in many countries. The company can benefit from this in EV business.

Executive Director of Mahindra & Mahindra, Rajesh Jejurikar said that the company is developing new models of electric vehicles and products like pickup trucks. This will make it easier for the company to start business in new international markets. He told that the company has a strong business in countries like Australia, Morocco, New Zealand and South Africa. The company started with Scorpio in many foreign markets. Models like XUV 700, Scorpio N and XUV 3XO are being launched in these markets.

The company also plans to launch lifestyle pick-up truck in foreign markets. Recently Mahindra introduced electric vehicles BE 6 and XEV 9e. Test drives of both these EVs have started. The BE 6 and XEV 9e are likely to be showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo to be held this month. Deliveries of the BE 6 and XEV 9e may begin in February. The base variant of BE 6 is priced around Rs 18.90 lakh and the XEV 9e is priced around Rs 21.90 lakh (ex-showroom).

The BE 6 and XEV 9e will come in 59 kWh and 79 kWh battery packs. The company claims that the 59 kWh battery pack variant of BE 6 has a range of approximately 535 kilometers on a single charge and the 79 kWh variant has a range of approximately 682 kilometers. The range of the XEV 9e variant with 59 kWh battery pack is said to be around 542 kilometers and the range of the 79 kWh variant is said to be around 656 kilometers. Recently, Mahindra had decided to temporarily change the name of the electric SUV BE 6e to ‘BE 6’. The reason for this was a dispute with InterGlobe Aviation, which runs IndiGo airline, over trademarks. InterGlobe Aviation had also filed a petition against Mahindra in the court regarding this.
