Mia Brooks wins two Big Air World Cups in a row
Mia Brooks produced another spectacular display of big air snowboarding on Sunday to secure back-to-back World Cup wins.
The 17-year-old Briton won the competition in Beijing last month and followed that up with another victory in Klagenfurt, Austria.
Ranking third after her first jump, Brooks performed well enough to move into gold medal position, edging out Japan’s Mari Fukada with her second and third runs.
Brooks, who became the youngest-ever snowboard world champion in slopestyle in 2023, won after achieving the best run score of the day with her final effort (95.75), as she did in Beijing.
She finished with a total score of 184.25 – two points ahead of Fukada, whose compatriot Momo Suzuki was third with 166.75.
“It was crazy, I surprised myself,” Brooks told the BBC.
“I didn’t even plan on doing 14 (Cab 1440 melon trick). I knew I could do the trick, it was just a matter of whether I could do it on the jump.
“I did the same thing in China. The third time I ran I felt like ‘I’ve done what I wanted to do and I’m happy. I might give it another go and see if It happens.’
“It feels kind of surreal. I think it needs to sink in. It’s crazy to say I’ve won two championships in a row.”
The next World Cup event will take place next weekend in Kreisberg, Austria.
