David Moyes in New Year Honors 2025: Ex-West Ham manager ‘not done yet’

David Moyes says he is not ready to retire from football management just yet – but is prepared to be more selective in the jobs he takes in future.

The 61-year-old Scot has been appointed OBE in the New Year Honors list for services to football, with his total of 697 Premier League games as a manager exceeded only by Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson.

His managerial career has spanned over 1,100 games at six clubs, starting at Preston in 1998 and then moving to Everton, Manchester United, Real Sociedad, Sunderland and West Ham United.

Moyes has been out of action since his second stint as Hammers boss ended in May. He’s been linked to several jobs and has had a few approaches this season — but for now, he’s content to enjoy a break.

“I don’t think I’ve done my job yet, but I’m certainly enjoying some time off,” he told BBC Sport.

“The one thing I wouldn’t do is put a manager under pressure personally, because I don’t believe in it. I didn’t like it when I was in that position myself.

“We’re all growing up a little bit and I have to make sure I’m doing the right thing for myself.

“Football is in my blood. It has been since I was a boy. I love watching football and I have enjoyed my career.”

“If there’s another part to it, so be it. But I’d just like it to be a good part. I wouldn’t want to come in and do something that’s too difficult.

“I don’t want to be at the bottom of the league and fight relegation, which I’ve had to deal with at times, so we’ll see how things go.”
