Manchester United: ‘Everything is very difficult’ – Ruben Amorim must find answers
Not that Amorim is apportioning blame.
“The responsibility is on me, not Carlos,” he said.
“We’re a team in good moments and bad moments. We have a way of doing things. We’re working on that and we’re going to improve on that. But we didn’t lose because of set pieces. We lost because We created more chances and couldn’t score.”
Speaking to Match of the Day, Martínez put it more clearly.
“We are very angry with this kind of situation,” the Argentina defender said. “We have to work especially on set-pieces.
“I have a lot of confidence in this team and the staff. If they don’t get their first goal from a set-piece it’s a completely different game.”
Amorim is hampered by lack of quality.
The Portuguese relied on Tyrrell Malaysia for the left wing-back role, but the Dutchman was taken off at half-time after giving the Dutchman the ball too cheaply on several occasions and not really giving him anything to go forward .
Diogo Dalot changed sides, but his one goal threat lacked conviction. Noussair Mazraoui moved from his position in the three-man defense to left wing-back, but was caught in Justin Kluivert’s rash tackle, allowing the forward to double Bournemouth’s lead from the penalty spot.
Furthermore, only captain Bruno Fernandes was a threat to the Bournemouth goal, with Marcus Rashford left off for the third consecutive game, although he was at Old Trafford to witness the tragic events.
When Amorim was asked if the England forward could be in contention for the Boxing Day trip to Wolves, he said: “It depends, we’ll see.”
