Runway closed after emergency at Belfast City Airport
The runway at Belfast City Airport will be closed for the rest of Sunday after an Aer Lingus plane suffered an emergency incident while landing in high winds.
The plane took off from Edinburgh for Belfast at around 16:00 GMT with four crew members on board, but no passengers.
Pictures showed the plane sitting on the runway with a broken nose wheel.
It is understood that no one was seriously injured.
This was a “positioning flight” operated by Emerald Airlines on behalf of Aer Lingus.
Emerald Airlines said it “experienced a difficult landing on approach to Belfast City Airport due to adverse weather conditions”.
Two flights – from London City and Leeds Bradford – have landed at Belfast International Airport after being diverted due to land at the airport.
