Wanted’s Max George has a pacemaker
Boy band The Wanted member Max George has revealed he has been fitted with a pacemaker, days after saying he would need surgery for a heart condition.
He posted a photo of his scar on Instagram, showing the position of the small battery-powered device that keeps the heart beating regularly.
George said the surgeon placed the pacemaker just beneath a “special tattoo” that read 04/08/1998, referring to his late bandmate Tom Parker’s birthday.
Earlier, the 36-year-old had said that he had been diagnosed with a “2:1 block in my heart”, where The heart beats more slowly or with an abnormal rhythm Due to electrical pulse problem.
Ten days ago George revealed he was taken to hospital after feeling unwell and was then diagnosed with heart problems.
On Saturday, George called his new pacemaker his “little friend” and described it as “the best Christmas present I could ever wish for”.
The singer said that the operation took about two and a half hours.
“The main issue is that some of my nerves were damaged where the wires were supposed to go… but the surgeons and nurses in the NHS have been incredible. I am indebted to them all.”
He said that Tom Parker’s placement of a pacemaker under his tattoo made him “make sure it was being taken care of”.
George said some more tests are being done due to swollen lymph nodes in his lungs, but he hopes he will be home for Christmas.
He further added, “It’s time to rest and deal with life once again.
“Thank you for all your support. It means a huge thing to me and my family.”
The British Heart Foundation said Atrioventricular heart block occurs when electrical impulses become delayed or blocked as they travel between the atria (upper chambers of the heart) and ventricles (lower chambers).
Depending on the severity, heart block is classified as first, second, or third degree.
George rose to fame in the early 2010s with his bandmates Shiva Kaneswaran, Nathan Sykes, Jay McGuinness and Tom Parker.
The Wanted announced a break in 2014 – and in 2022, George and Kaneswaran relaunched as a duo.
George also appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2020, where he first met his partner, actress Maisie Smith.
