Keely Hodgkinson wins BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2024
Olympic 800m gold medalist Keeley Hodgkinson has been named BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2024.
The 22-year-old ended her wait for a global title by winning the title at Paris 2024.
She had previously won back-to-back World Championship silver medals after finishing runner-up in her Olympic debut in Tokyo three years ago.
Hodgkinson also retained her European 800 meters title in Rome and improved her British record at the London Diamond League to one minute 54.61 seconds, becoming the sixth fastest woman of all time.
“I’m a bit shocked,” Hodgkinson told BBC One.
“I’m more excited for my coaches because without their guidance I wouldn’t be here.
“This year has been incredible and I achieved everything I set out to do on the outdoor track. I hope you enjoyed seeing Paris.”
Darts player Luke Littler came second and England cricketer Joe Root came third.
Sarah Storey, Alex Yee and Jude Bellingham were also shortlisted for the award by a panel of experts, with the winner decided by public vote.
Hodgkinson is the fourth woman to win the award, following Mary Earps (2023), Beth Mead (2022) and Emma Raducanu (2021).
Lehigh athlete coaches, Trevor Painter and Jenny Meadows, were honored at the night with Coach of the Year awards.
