‘Wonky’ dog wins title of Britain’s ugliest dog
A 12-year-old dog has been crowned Britain’s ugliest dog with his tongue constantly hanging out of his mouth.
Muppet, a Chinese crested dog from Peterborough, won the title beating seven others in a competition organized by photography company Parrot Print and the final was held live on ITV’s This Morning show.
Owner Bev Nicholson said Muppet, who is also missing teeth, was a “weird little rescue dog” but “beautiful inside and out”.
Head judge and contest founder Matt DeHaan said the Muppet was “both beautiful and ugly at the same time”.
Muppet is the second dog in the family to be honored with this award, with his brother Muggli winning the World’s Ugliest Dog award in 2012.
Along with the trophy, the Muppet was also presented with a pampering session at a luxury doggie spa, which included a mud bath followed by a Christmas-themed photoshoot.
Ms Nicholson said: “I know people say there’s no such thing as an ugly dog, but that’s just a term of endearment.
“Aren’t there ugly people?
“The difference is that the Muppet has inner beauty. He’s not just a pink dog with a comb over.”
“The walk often takes a while because people want to stop us, especially if he’s going home in his stroller; we call it his chariot,” Ms Nicholson said.
“He loves it there, he is warm and at altitude where he is happier.
“People often take selfies with them with their tongues out.
“When I was told the Muppet had won I laughed.
“I’m happy for him; he doesn’t know any different and it’s nice that a little stubborn rescue dog has ended up with this dubious title.
“The Muppet loved taking mud baths and apart from the naughty poop in the photography studio he was on great behavior and the photos looked fantastic.
“Overall it was a great experience.”
