US Gaza confirms direct conversation with Hamas on hostages

The US is interacting with Hamas on the hostages held in Gaza, the White House has confirmed.

Washington has so far avoided direct connection with Hamas, and is a long -term American policy against having direct contact with groups that list it as terrorist organizations.

White House press secretary Karolin Lewit told reporters in a briefing that Israel was advised before the talks.
