Man fined 18 people for housing in three bed houses

A court has ordered a court to pay £ 37,000 after a court found 18 people living in a terraced house in North London.

The 57-year-old Charles Egbirmol, Fairmade Crescent, was operating eight beds without a license in a converted three-bedroom staircase house.

Egbiremolen was convicted of nine offenses in the Wilsden Magistrate Court on 25 November and was sentenced in the same court on 5 February.

The council was called to property after neighboring complaints about noise, anti -social behavior and congestion.

Council inspectors and police entered the property with a warrant and found extreme congestion, with a room shared by six people.

The council said that two tenants were captured in another room of 83.9 square feet (7.8 square meters).

Inspectors stated that the back garden was filled with garbage, mattresses and other debris and there was a kitchen in a separate structure in the garden.

He said that there was chaos in the entire property, it failed to meet the safety standards, an insufficient fire alarm system, and there was no safe means to escape in the case of fire.

Egbiremolen was found guilty of several crimes including failure to give license to property, management and security crimes and failure to supply statutory information to the council.

He was fined £ 15,000, as well as £ 2,000 victim surcharge and council costs £ 20,000.

A council spokesman said, “It is the responsibility of every landlord to ensure that his assets follow the law and their tenants are safe.”
